Jacqueline Cochran was an extraordinary woman who broke the physical barrier of sound and the mental barrier of gender. Through hard work, she set and broke many records in aviation. Most importantly, she flew a jet faster than sound proving the ability of women to withstand extreme G-force. She funded the Mercury 13 testing program, which after many years led to sending the first American woman into space. Her determination to make women equal overruled gender barriers, allowing females to enter into an all-male world of fast speed aviation.
